Collective Action Lawsuits

Collective Actions are a type of lawsuit in which several or many persons join in a lawsuit against a defendant or group of defendants. While the subject matter of collective action lawsuits can vary, the issues in dispute are generally common to all members of the group (although legal theories and statutes sued upon need not be identical). In collective actions, the parties share costs and legal fees and thereby spread the expense of litigation. This can make collective actions more appealing to individuals who do not want to or cannot afford individual lawsuits.
